New gameplay mechanics were introduced such as the stamina meter, more pre-match mini games, and an overhaul to the Dirty / Clean system which let players wrestle matches like a babyface or a heel. The game also received a significant graphical boost with entrances and character models looking more realistic than ever. Legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan made their Smackdown game return, and fans could choose from main roster favourites such as John Cena, Dave Batista, Triple H, Edge, Shawn Michaels and Triple H. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006 introduced grapple fans to a brand new mode that would prove to be quite popular; GM Mode. Fans could now book matches and call the shots backstage while competing against the opposing brand for TV Ratings supremacy.
