David Dhawan is the kind of Indian comedy and has been given brilliant films from the early 90s. Though serious and commercial action films was his initial plan he moved to full fledged comedy after his Blockbuster Anakhen from 1993 and flop Aandaz from around that time. David Dhawan usually directs Sanjay Dutt Govinda Salman Khan and even Anil Kapoor with selected heroines. His lastest films are mostly craps but during the 90s he rules and even in the mid 20s he gave hits. Biwi No 1 was one of DD's earlier films when he used the same formula which worked many times execept one flop Gharwali Baharwali from around that time. Biwi No 1 was a superhit film if not a Blockbuster. The movie can be described as a superb comedy with an average story. Most DD films had brainless stories with lots of masala and silly comedy and I will admit the comedy even if silly is funny at most parts. Only disappointing DD film from the 90s would be Andaaz a remake of Toy Soldier and that too was a flop with overacting of lame comedy and average action. Biwi No 1 is the same formula, it doesn't have anything new yet the comic scenes and the one liners are hilarious. Anil Kapoor deserves a hats off for his natural Punjabi act where he does hilarious comedy. Salman Khan is on of the most featured DD actors and after his combination with DD from superhit Judwaa, Salman shined in most DD films. Salman Khan does a good job though his crying towards the climax gets cringeworthy and requires patience to watch. Karishman Kapoor is also a frequent DD actress and does a job well done especially in the second half. Sushmita Sen does an OK job depending heavily on her beauty and charm. She could've done better in terms of acting but she is OK. The rest including the child actor and the dog have provided good support. Songs are one of the big plus points of the film. Whether its the hilarious title song or the brilliant Shankar Mahadevan Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai or the Chunari Chunari song, most are good. But, these 3 are the top chartbusters from this movie. This movie is definitely David Dhawan's best film after blockbusters like Aankhen, Saajan Chale Sasural, and the recent Judwaa. Biwi No 1 proves to be a good follow up and entertains. However, keep in mind that if your going to watch this movie looking for realism and a very good story, please skip this one because those looking for a realistic and neat story will get nothing but braindead comedy which is entertaining for most people but not for everyone!

Was a fun movie back then but doesn't hold up now to the conversations we are having. It is misogynistic and very problematic. Over the top acting by Anil Kapoor and the usually wonderful Tabu. Karisma and Salman look good but the script is messed up. If you must watch then the original Sati Leelavathi in Tamil with subtitles would be a better alternative.

We all have our opinions. I just don't find adultery a funny plot theme. So, that killed this movie for me right from the start. I really enjoy these actors and love many of their other films, so it has nothing to do with the actors. If you're into adultery themes that have been treated with the seriousness and tone it deserves, there are other Hindi films to consider.

Don't know why it has low rating .It's a very good film. Not a single dull moment. High repeat value. And Everybody in the film was good especially Salman and Karishma🔥. Anil Kapoor was also too funny.
